EMILY SCHAFFER
Of Counsel

Emily Schaffer is Of Counsel at CROKE FAIRCHILD DUARTE & BERES. Emily’s professional journey has taken her across six countries on three continents, allowing her to build a wide range of legal and non-legal skills in service of her clients. Among her greatest professional strengths is her ability to disentangle complex factual and legal issues and shape them into clear and compelling legal arguments.

Emily began her career at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, LLP, where highlights of her practice included interviewing witnesses and reviewing documents in Portuguese with a team sent to investigate fraud allegations involving the Brazilian subsidiary of a U.S. client. In addition to representing companies involved in commercial disputes, Emily also maintained an active pro bono practice, winning immigration benefits for asylum applicants facing removal. Emily later worked in the litigation group of a boutique Boston firm specializing in intellectual property.

Most recently, Emily was a career law clerk in the Northern District of Illinois, where she was recognized for her incisive analysis and exceptional writing. In nearly two decades at the court, Emily gained insight into judicial decision making through her work on decisions in a wide range of substantive legal fields, including antitrust, employment discrimination, wage and hour disputes, intellectual property infringement, trade secret theft, consumer fraud, insurance coverage disputes, premises liability claims, contract disputes, and arbitration enforcement, among others.

Outside of her work, Emily is an avid runner and has run the Chicago Marathon each year since 2016 to support the Chicago Diabetes Project in developing a functional cure for type 1 diabetes. Emily also loves baking, recipe-swapping, and spectating her kids’ high school sports teams.
